Professor Lewis Littlepage Holladay graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in June, 1853. He served as a tutor at the College prior to attending the University of Virginia from 1854-1855. In 1855, he returned to Hampden-Sydney College as a professor of physical science, a position he held until his death in 1891.

Scope and Content The collection of Lewis Littlepage Holladay Letters, dated 1858-1961, contains numerous pieces of correspondence from a multitude of senders, nearly all of which are addressed directly to Dr. Holladay. Also included is a short letter from Anthony “Tony” M. DeMuth to Dr. Graves Thompson that provides information on the acquisition of the collection, as well as an exercise folio wherein Dr. Holladay recorded history and notes on the Hampden-Sydney class of 1890.
