Collection is open for research; access requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Because of the nature of certain archival formats, including digital and audio-visual materials, access will require additional advanced notice. Copies of digital files will be provided for use upon request.

Biographical history

The Kaleidoscope, the College yearbook, was first published in 1893 by Dandridge Spotswood, Class of 1893, as a permanent record of the life and history of this community. The yearbook became a regular printing with a new yearbook every school year until 2010, except for 1904 and 1905.

Acquisition

gift of Dr. Winston M. Gouldin

Physical status

Fair condition, several photos are marked with white marker for editing, have labels or marks explaining different cuts, placements, zooms, etc. for the yearbook layout. Most photos have glue residue on the back if they have come off the layout designs while the images that are still connected are very friable and at great risk for coming off the layouts completely.
