John Wayt Cosby Architectural Drawings

Scope and Contents The drawings in this collection include Specifications and Drawings for Spiers House, Raleigh, NC, 1862. The Spiers house was never constructed, and little information has been found regarding the Spiers family. Plans for the house offer a glimpse into antebellum architecture, in particular plans for a structure intended to house not only a family but enslaved servants.

Content Description Bound manuscript detailing the life and memorial of Lancaster Brown, a part-time employee of the Chi Phi Fraternity at Hampden-Sydney College. The manuscript was assembled by Hampden-Sydney's Chi Phi Alumni of the 1960s, who have also funded a scholarship in Mr. Brown's memory.

Due to that, they have been processed together as letters to William Overton Callis but the Archives and Special Collections would like to acknowledge that the recipient of the Patrick Henry letter, along with the written date of the letter, remain unconfirmed due a generous section missing.

DeMuth to Dr. Graves Thompson that provides information on the acquisition of the collection, as well as an exercise folio wherein Dr. Holladay recorded history and notes on the Hampden-Sydney class of 1890.
